Andrew Cristall can’t stop smiling.
He loves playing hockey, and it shows. At the 2023 NHL Draft combine, just weeks before being picked by the Washington Capitals in the second round, his joy was contagious. The 19-year-old winger had an incredible season with the WHL’s Kelowna Rockets, scoring 40 goals and racking up 111 points. In the playoffs, he added another 15 points in just 11 games. With numbers like these, it’s no wonder he’s one of the top forwards and expected to vie for the WHL scoring title this year.
Cristall has always been a standout player. As a rookie in 2021-22, he scored 69 points and then upped his game with 95 points in the following season. Known for his pure skill as a winger, he’s dangerous both as a goal-scorer and playmaker. Last year, he took his game to another level by maintaining a remarkable 23-game point streak from Nov. 3 to Jan. 19, amassing an impressive tally of points.
During the World Junior Summer Showcase in early August, Cristall reflected on his performance: “I played with a lot of confidence,” he said. “It was great playing with really good teammates on a really good team.” His confidence soared each night knowing he could make a difference.
