The Boston Bruins have decided to let go of their head coach, Jim Montgomery.
This decision follows a rocky start to the season, despite efforts by Don Sweeney, the general manager, who spent a lot on new players during the offseason. The team has only won 8 out of 20 games and recently lost at home to the Columbus Blue Jackets with a score of 5-1. This loss might have been the tipping point for Montgomery’s departure in his third year with the Bruins.
Sweeney shared a long statement about how the team’s performance on ice hasn’t met expectations. He mentioned that Joe Sacco will step in as interim head coach and expressed hope in Sacco’s ability to refocus the team. “Our team’s inconsistency and performance in the first 20 games of the 2024-25 season has been concerning and below how the Bruins want to reward our fans,” Sweeney said. “I believe Joe Sacco has the coaching experience to bring the players and team back to focusing on consistent effort.”
Bruins’ Past Successes and Recent Challenges:
Montgomery was hired by Boston in 2022, leading them through an amazing regular season with record-breaking wins and earning them the Presidents’ Trophy. However, they stumbled in playoffs against Florida Panthers after having a strong lead.
Last year was still good under Montgomery with 109 points and beating Toronto Maple Leafs early in playoffs but again losing to Panthers later on. Over summer, Sweeney added Elias Lindholm and Nikita Zadorov hoping for better playoff results this time around; unfortunately, things didn’t pan out as planned.
Fans might be wondering if Sacco can turn things around quickly enough for this season.
Now it’s up to Joe Sacco who takes over coaching duties after his previous role with Colorado Avalanche years ago where he had mixed results.
