Brandon Montour Injury Update: Kraken Share Encouraging News

The Seattle Kraken are getting a boost on defense, with Brandon Montour rejoining the team after a brief personal leave to handle family matters.

Montour’s been exactly what the Kraken hoped for when they signed him to that big $50 million deal last summer. He’s already racked up four assists in his first four games this season, while eating up nearly 23 minutes of ice time per night.

That’s right in line with what he did last year, his first in Seattle, when he put up some impressive numbers – 18 goals and 23 assists in 81 games.

To make room for Montour’s return, the Kraken had to make a tough call. They’ve placed forward Jared McCann on injured reserve with a lower-body issue that’s kept him sidelined for about a week.

McCann’s absence is definitely felt – he was off to a hot start with three goals and an assist before getting hurt.

The move makes sense for Seattle’s roster situation. They’ve been running with just six defensemen, and they couldn’t really afford to send another one down.

Looks like Cale Fleury will probably be the odd man out of the lineup with Montour back in the mix.

The good news for Kraken fans? McCann could be back pretty soon. If the team backdated his IR placement, he’d be eligible to return whenever he’s ready.
