Bobby McMann Trade Proposal to Oilers Sparks Fan Outrage

Bobby McMann is suddenly one of the hottest trade targets in the NHL, but what he’s actually worth has sparked quite a debate between Leafs and Oilers fans.

Steven Dangle Glynn, the passionate Leafs superfan and SDPN podcast host, threw out a trade proposal that got Edmonton fans pretty worked up.

His suggestion? Send McMann to Edmonton in exchange for Andrew Mangiapane plus a bunch of draft picks – two second-rounders, a third, and a sixth.

Oilers fans weren’t having it. They flooded social media calling it a massive overpay for a 30-year-old player who’s never topped 34 points in a season.

But Glynn stuck to his guns. He pointed out that McMann is scoring at a 26-goal pace this season after putting up 20 last year. Plus, there’s the money factor – Mangiapane carries a $3.6 million cap hit through next season, while McMann’s making just $1.35 million.

“McMann on his own is worth at least a second-round pick,” Glynn argued, comparing it to recent similar trades. “When you add in the cap savings from Mangiapane’s contract, the price is pretty fair.”

Some fans pushed back, suggesting this kind of return was closer to what you’d expect for a star player like Artemi Panarin. Glynn disagreed, saying Panarin would command at least a first-round pick as a starting point.

Here’s the tricky part for Edmonton: McMann has no trade protection in his contract. That means Toronto can simply take the best offer they get, no matter where it comes from.

The Oilers will need to decide just how badly they want him – and how much they’re willing to pay to beat out other interested teams.
