Blues’ Broberg Sidelined 4-6 Weeks Due to Injury

Broberg might soon be placed on injured reserve. With no extra spots and only Scott Perunovich available before his injury, it’s likely he’ll be added there around the time of the game against the Lightning.

While Broberg is eligible for long-term injured reserve due to his recovery timeline, the Blues have room there with Torey Krug’s $6.5M cap hit already in place. Many worried Broberg would miss a long time after he awkwardly fell on his right leg during a clash with Mitch Marner from Toronto. He needed help getting off the ice and held his knee for several minutes. But Bannister’s recent announcement matches Andy Strickland’s report that Broberg’s absence won’t be as lengthy as feared.

Signed to a two-year, $9.16M offer sheet from Edmonton in August, Broberg has been crucial in filling Krug’s gap and covering for Nick Leddy’s absence. In 12 games with St. Louis, he scored two goals, made seven assists, and earned nine points with a +6 rating.

Broberg’s Journey:

Last season, Broberg played just 12 NHL games with Edmonton while mostly being in the AHL. This year looks promising as he aims to stay out of minor leagues since joining North America post-2019 draft by Oilers . Fans think he’s finally showing his true potential this season.

He could still break his previous record of 46 NHL games set in 2022-23 despite this setback. His offensive skills are shining brighter now compared to when he was at Edmonton where he had only two goals and 13 points over 81 appearances. Known for being a solid two-way defender who can score decently in NHL, last year at AHL Bakersfield saw him tallying up an impressive 38 points (5 G, 33 A) across just 49 matches.

Even strength-wise, Broberg was pairing up with Justin Faulk while Ryan Suter handled top duties alongside Colton Parayko during Leddy’s absence.

Pierre-Olivier Joseph stepped into practice next to Faulk on Monday as reported by Lou Korac from NHL.com; he’ll cover much of Broberg’s playtime temporarily. Meanwhile, Perunovich is set to return lining up beside Matthew Kessel after missing out on two of Blues’ recent three games due to being healthy scratched.

Broberg’s contract holds $4.58M against salary cap until it expires in 2025-26 when he’ll become restricted free agent eligible for arbitration rights too! What do you think about all these changes happening?
