Blue Jackets GM Optimistic About Laine Trade

Most NHL top free agents have signed new deals, so teams are now looking at trades.

Columbus Blue Jackets’ Patrik Laine might be the best player available for a trade. Even though the ideal times to trade him have passed, Don Waddell remains hopeful about finding a deal.

Trade Market Buzz:

Teams keep asking if there’s anything new with Laine. Waddell told The Athletic, “I tell them, ‘You guys have to be comfortable with (Laine), and I can’t help you.’ I don’t know the player personally. I’m not one to try and trick people either, so (we) made him available to chat (when he’s cleared).”

Laine asked for a trade this offseason but is still in the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program since January . He checked himself in to focus on his mental health.

Fans might think this news is both surprising and concerning.

Even though trading windows were missed before the draft and free agency, there’s still hope for a deal. Teams are curious and keep checking in on Laine’s status.

What do you think will happen next?
