Boone Jenner is set to start the season on injured reserve for the Columbus Blue Jackets, according to Aaron Portzline from The Athletic.
Jenner’s injury happened when he lost his balance and crashed into the wall during a practice session. This isn’t new for him, as he’s missed at least 10 games in each of the past four seasons due to various injuries. Last year, he was out for a month with a broken jaw, and his previous two seasons ended early because of back issues. Despite these setbacks, Jenner has been a key player, scoring over 20 goals in three consecutive seasons and racking up 141 points in 226 games since 2020.
The team will also miss Dmitri Voronkov as both players are expected to be sidelined for quite some time. General manager Don Waddell mentioned that Jenner is consulting specialists and will be absent “for a while.”
Impact on Team Dynamics:
With Jenner and Voronkov out, Columbus faces challenges as they lose two of their top three scorers from last season. Fans might feel anxious about how this impacts their chances this year. The team has had an incredibly tough summer already.
To fill the gap left by these absences, younger players like James Malatesta and Yegor Chinakhov may get more ice time. Additionally, Kevin Labanc could see increased responsibilities after impressing with six goals in four preseason matches—an impressive feat indeed!
Injuries can change everything in sports; do you think Columbus can overcome this hurdle?
