The Chicago Blackhawks have called up Frank Nazar from the Rockford IceHogs and put Alec Martinez on injured reserve.
Nazar, just 20 years old, was picked in the first round back in 2022. He’s been shining brightly in his debut AHL season with Rockford. Leading all rookies with 11 goals and adding 13 assists across 21 games, he’s sixth overall in scoring. Originally from Detroit, Michigan, Nazar was expected to spend more time in the AHL but has impressed everyone so much that plans changed.
Last season, Nazar played three NHL games for Chicago and scored his first goal on April 14. The team is counting on him to boost their offense and strengthen the center position. With only 71 goals this season, ranking them 30th out of 32 teams, there’s a huge opportunity for him to secure a spot . Meanwhile, Martinez is dealing with a neck injury from December 7 when he got hit by a puck. Initially thought to be minor, he left practice early and returned to Chicago for more tests. The seasoned player has contributed one goal and three assists over his first season with Chicago.
Blackhawks’ Current Challenges
Fans might wonder if this move will finally spark some excitement for the struggling team. Martinez’s absence leaves a gap as he’s known for his experience as a three-time Stanley Cup Champion.
