Avalanche Starting Goaltender Placed on IR

The Colorado Avalanche have put their main goalie, Alexandar Georgiev, on injured reserve due to an upper-body injury.

This means he won’t play against Philadelphia on Monday, but Jared Bednar said he’ll be back with the team for their next road trip.

Georgiev’s been having a rough time this season with a 4-5-0 record and is now missing more games.

Team Changes:

With Georgiev out, backup Justus Annunen has been stepping up, showing better stats than Georgiev so far. Fans might wonder if Annunen should get more chances to play.

To fill in the gaps, Colorado called up T.J. Tynan and Kevin Mandolese from the AHL. Mandolese will be the fifth goalie for the Avalanche this season after doing well in minor leagues. He’s expected to support as a backup until Georgiev returns.

Tynan brings extra offense behind Parker Kelly and Joel Kiviranta. He recently helped his team win with three assists in one game but still hasn’t scored his first NHL goal yet.
