The Toronto Maple Leafs might trade Mitch Marner soon.
There hasn’t been any official word yet, but many in the NHL think the Leafs want to trade him instead of giving him a big new contract or losing him in free agency. Stu Grimson from NHL Network is one of those people. On “NHL Tonight,” he talked about why trading Marner might be tough but could be smart in the end.
Grimson said, “This group needs more sandpaper, they need a little more grit as far as their top six is concerned.” He mentioned how the Leafs struggled against Florida’s Matthew Tkachuk and Sam Bennett. These players are both gritty and skilled, which is what the Leafs need . Grimson believes that trading Marner could bring that needed toughness and skill to help them succeed.
Trade Speculations:
Fans might think this news is surprising because Marner is such a key player for the team. But sometimes teams have to make hard choices to get better. The idea here is that by trading Marner, the Leafs can get players who add grit and still score goals. This balance could be what they need to win more games.
Imagine if you had a favorite toy but needed to trade it for two new toys that are just as fun but also stronger—it’s kind of like that! The team wants players who can handle tough opponents while still being great at scoring.
What do you think? Should they trade Marner or keep him?
