Alexander Ovechkin Scores 889th Goal Against Jets

Alex Ovechkin just won’t stop scoring. The Washington Capitals’ captain came through again Tuesday night, netting a crucial game-tying goal against the NHL-best Winnipeg Jets.

Down 2-1 late in the third period, Ovi did what he does best – firing a laser from his favorite spot on the ice, the left faceoff circle. Even Jets’ superstar goalie Connor Hellebuyck couldn’t stop this one.

It’s becoming a habit for the 39-year-old superstar when he faces Winnipeg. He’s now scored an incredible 10 goals in his last 10 games against them.

But this goal meant even more than just tying the game. It was Ovechkin’s 36th of the season and the 889th of his remarkable career.

Now he’s just six goals away from breaking Wayne Gretzky’s all-time NHL record of 894 – a mark that seemed untouchable for decades.

The clock is ticking. With 11 games left in the regular season, Ovi’s on pace to catch The Great One on April 10 against Carolina. If the math holds up, he could break the record three days later when the Caps face Columbus.

The Jets ended up winning Tuesday’s game 3-2 in overtime, but all eyes were on Ovechkin’s latest step toward history.

He’s been scoring from that left circle spot for so long that players and fans just call it “Ovi’s office.” And even though everyone knows that’s where he’ll shoot from, nobody seems able to stop it.
