2025 NHL Awards: Hellebuyck Leads Vezina Trophy Finalists

Connor Hellebuyck is making NHL history with another stellar season in net for the Winnipeg Jets, landing him among the three finalists for the Vezina Trophy – hockey’s top goaltending award.

The Jets’ star netminder put up incredible numbers this year, leading the league with 47 wins, a tiny 2.01 goals-against average, and eight shutouts. He also posted an amazing .925 save percentage, second only to Toronto’s Anthony Stolarz.

If Hellebuyck takes home the trophy, he’ll join some legendary company. Only three goalies have ever won back-to-back Vezinas – Martin Brodeur, Dominik Hasek and Patrick Roy. The last time it happened was Brodeur in 2007-08 with the New Jersey Devils.

The other finalists this year are Darcy Kuemper of the Los Angeles Kings and Andrei Vasilevskiy from the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Hellebuyck’s dominance helped the Jets claim the Presidents’ Trophy as the NHL’s best regular-season team. He appeared in 63 games, finishing with a 47-12-3 record.

The Vezina Trophy goes to the NHL’s best goaltender each season, as voted by the league’s general managers.

This announcement kicks off the NHL’s awards season, with more finalists being revealed daily through mid-May. The winners will be crowned at the 2025 NHL Awards ceremony in June, though the exact date hasn’t been set yet.

The timing couldn’t be better for these announcements, with the Stanley Cup Playoffs currently in full swing and hockey’s biggest stars on display.
