Welcome back! Let’s dive into Daily Faceoff’s second annual NHL Prospect Pool Breakdown, highlighting the best young talents from all 32 teams.
Today, we’re exploring the San Jose Sharks’ prospect pool. The Sharks have one of the most exciting groups of young players in the NHL right now. They recently drafted Will Smith and Macklin Celebrini, two top prospects who are set to go pro full-time in 2024-25.
The Sharks’ depth is so impressive that even some great players didn’t make the top 10 list. Names like Collin Graf, Daniil Gushchin, Carson Wetsch, Brandon Svoboda, Colton Roberts, Luca Cagnoni, and Leo Sahlin Wallenius are still expected to become NHL players someday. This team has over 15 solid prospects!
While it might take a few more years for these young stars to fully develop and for the older players to phase out , fans can look forward to brighter days ahead.
Biggest Strengths
The Sharks boast incredible center depth. The duo of Celebrini and Smith is already formidable. Add Thomas Bordeleau, Filip Bystedt, David Edstrom, Svoboda, and Cameron Lund into the mix and you have an arsenal of talent down the middle. Some may eventually switch to wing positions or be traded for other needs—an excellent problem to have!
Fans will likely think this roster looks scary good with such depth at center.
Biggest Weakness
Goaltending remains a concern for San Jose. Benjamin Gaudreau was once seen as their future goalie but never signed an NHL contract and continues in the AHL. New draftees Christian Kirsch and Yaroslav Korostelyov are longshots at best. Magnus Chrona has potential due to his size but struggled last year across multiple leagues. Current goalies Mackenzie Blackwood and Vitek Vanecek can steal games occasionally but consistency is lacking.
