Martin Necas just landed a massive payday with the Colorado Avalanche, agreeing to a deal worth up to $92 million that’ll keep him in Denver for years to come.
The timing couldn’t be better. Less than a month into his first full season with the Avs, the 24-year-old forward is already proving why he’s worth the investment.
Necas came to Colorado in what’s now looking like a steal of a trade with the Carolina Hurricanes last season – even though it cost them Mikko Rantanen. In his first 30 games with the Avalanche, he put up impressive numbers: 11 goals and 28 points total.
The playoffs were a different story. He managed just one goal in seven games as the Avs got knocked out by the Dallas Stars in the first round.
But that rough patch didn’t define him. Between his time with the Hurricanes and Avalanche, Necas hit a career-high 83 points in 2024-25, showing exactly why Colorado was eager to lock him down long-term.
It’s quite a journey for the 2017 first-round draft pick, who’s now found his home in the Mile High City.
The real question now is: Can Necas help lead the Avalanche back to Stanley Cup glory? With his new contract locked in, he’ll have plenty of chances to prove it.
Looking at his career trajectory and the talent around him in Colorado, there’s every reason to think his best years are still ahead. The Avalanche are betting big on it – 92 million reasons worth, to be exact.
